TRUTH!

This is a repost of a quote by Alan Watts posted at nathancushing.wordpress.com

…a person who truly believes in God would never try and thrust the idea on anyone else, just as when you understand mathematics, you are not a fanatical proponent of the idea that two and two are four.

Not really sure I agree. . . Newton and Galileo believed in their math enough to ‘thrust’ it on the world. And I’m glad they did–otherwise we would still be saying the universe revolves around the earth, etc.
One can believe truth and encourage others to believe that truth without ‘thrusting’ or being ‘fanatical.’
I think Watts’ quote uses inflationary language to disguise the truth.

I guess the appreciation of this quote lies in the margins of what one sees as inflationary. I wouldn’t call it inflationary, but if I were to see it as that I’d agree with you. I guess I just see Watts as sort of cheeky, so with that idea in my head it seemed a quote that really spoke to me.
I’m also currently wrestling with my comfort level about things like apologetics, which I feel like this quote has an ice berg tip to that larger subject.
More on this later.
